Sam Fawkner-Egli
Samuel Fawkner-Egli is a young Singer Songwriter born and raised in Taranaki with a strong local connection. He’s been writing and performing over the past 10 years, finding inspiration from the great Kiwi Artists who’ve gone before him. Music has always guided Sam throughout his life as he finds great solace in melody and storytelling. Drawing from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Don McGlashan and the Finn Brothers he weaves his own experiences with a hopeful spirit to create an overarching musical experience that wraps both listener and performer in a timeless spell. Blending complex picking patterns, alternative tunings and jazz inspired voicings, Samuel guides the listener using nostalgic sweet melodies that delve deep into the soul. The feeling of freedom and peace that music has invoked in Sam is what inspires him when creating his own songs, motivated by the spirit of folk music, rockn’roll and what it did for the world during the 1960’s (and beyond).
