VULNERABLE ROAD USER AWARENESS RIDES for HORSES
WHY ARE WE RIDING?
There is no time to wait. We need to let drivers across Aotearoa / NZ know what we need when passing horse and rider.
Our community is riding on September 15th 10am from The New Plymouth Racecourse.
Over 30 equestrian organisations are backing a Petition to the Government for horse riders to be formally recognised as a Vulnerable
Road User in transport legislation. The entire horse-riding community is united for improved status in road safety and inclusion in offroad pathways.
It’s the behaviour we want all drivers across Aotearoa / NZ to follow when they see a horse and rider on the road. Allowing 2 metres between vehicle and horse means if the horse does get a fright or moves suddenly there is enough space between your car and the horse to keep everyone safer.
Petition and Registered Rides endorsed by NZ Equestrian Advocacy Network. We promote adhering to all road rules and promote riders wearing both hi-vis vets and helmets when riding on our roads. Join the Pass Wide and Slow journey on social media today.
