Andy Bassett & Andrew Sylvester Perform the Songs of Lindisfarne

This month’s guests at Folk @ The Fitz probably need no introduction to the local folk community. Andy Bassett and Andrew Sylvester each perform regularly around Taranaki, though rarely together. But they both grew up listening to the songs of Lindisfarne and got to see them in concert back in the 1970s (Andy even got his photo in the spring tour ’78 programme!). Last year Andrew spontaneously added his mandolin and voice to Andy’s performance of “Lady Eleanor” at Folk @ The Fitz and someone suggested they should do a whole set of Lindisfarne songs together some time. That time has come!

They’ve picked a set songs by the band’s two main writers, Alan Hull and Rod Clements, plus one Rab Noakes cover that Lindisfarne made their own. Along with the aforementioned “Lady Eleanor,” expect to hear (and sing along to) “Meet Me on the Corner,” “Fog on the Tyne,” “Run For Home,” “The Road to Kingdom Come” and many more.

As usual with Folk @ The Fitz, the first half of the afternoon will feature invited floor singers and performers. Andy and Andrew will perform the entire second half.

Entry $10, door sales only.

The event is finished.
